The history of the Sanxia Tea Area can be traced back 260 years ago, being the oldest tea area in Taiwan. The tea area is located in the middle and low-altitude mountain area of Northern Taiwan, retaining many old tea trees. In recent years, Sanxia Tea Area has introduced environmentally friendly farming. More and more tea farmers have obtained organic agriculture certification and achieved the sustainable development goal of a win-win for the environment, ecology, farmers and consumers.
Bi Lo Chung is a famous green tea in the Sanxia Tea Area. The appearance of tea leaves is fresh and green, with notable Pekoe bud tips, and the tea strips are thin and tightly curled like a spiral. Every year from the spring equinox to the Ching Ming Festival, one tip and two leaf buds are picked. Besides Bi Lo Chung, the tea is also called "Mingqian Tea" (meaning to be harvested before the Ching Ming Festival).
The tea farmers in Sanxia Tea Area have been hand-picking "Chin-Shin-Ganzai" to make Bi Lo Chung green tea since the early period. The color of the tea soup is light, green, and clear, with a unique aroma of sweet corn, green bean or mung bean. The cold brewing and ice brewing methods have been popular in Taiwan. These methods highlight the Bi Lo Chung’s excellent refreshing flavor and retain rich nutrients such as green tea polyphenols theanine, and vitamin C.
